What we do...

On-site biomass waste processing, using virtually emission free technology. From forestry & agricultural waste to shore cleanup.

Reinvesting the carbon produced back into nature, encouraging regrowth.

Reducing emissions, reducing wildfire risk and protecting our air quality and watercourses.

Frequently asked questions

How do you process biomass waste in a virtually emission-free way?

We use a process called Pyrolysis, on site, which involves heating the feedstock (wood, seaweed, manure etc.) until it releases its gases and volatile compounds which are then recycled as the fuel to continue charring the feedstock - which will then cook itself until all that's left is biochar.

What is so special about Biochar?

Biochar has the ability to retain moisture, encourage regrowth and draw down greenhouse gases. In addition to this, it attracts and, more importantly, holds on to toxic heavy metals left over in soils by industry, preventing them from entering watercourses.

Why do we need to remove forestry waste?

As well as allowing wildfires to proliferate,  waste left over by forestry operations gives off greenhouse gases as it decomposes, converting waste to biochar and reinstating it stops this process and actively draws down greenhouse gases making it carbon negative.  BC's forests can be a major part of Canada's carbon sink.

FAQ's continued

What can Biochar be used for?

Biochar has primarily been marketed and used as an organic soil improver.

Due to its high surface area and ability to retain and slowly release nutrients and retain moisture its results can be dramatic in nutrient poor soils.

Biochar can aid in flood prevention by retaining moisture in soils prone to over-drying.

Biochar can be used to remediate contaminated soils by attracting and retaining heavy metals.

Are there any further uses for Biochar?

Far too many to mention - we highly recommend reading "Burn - Using Fire to Cool the Earth" by Albert Bates and Katherine Draper to further explore the many applications of Biochar and how we can best utilize this valuable resource. It is an incredibly well researched book.
